Statement

The most recent body of work is an inquiry into the sculptural elements of Architecture, image making and memory. Much of the work uses everyday building materials such as plywood, plastic laminate and decorative paneling. What is familiar and common is put into the service of Geometry. Through geometric reduction and repetition, elements are constructed that offer a bridge between an object and architectural space. Sets of fabricated elements are combined with a found object, resulting in visual links and tension. These objects, sometimes castaways or simply debris, are selected as vehicles for cultural information. The objects and the support structure offer a tangible and oddly familiar experience that is rooted in remembered history. Likewise scale, fluctuating between miniature and oversized, plays an important role within a given work, functioning to destabilize, expand and re-present spacial understanding. In these sculptures, the interplay between elements attempts to turn something that is intensely personal into something that is publicly available.
