Caleb Weintraub: Sunday Games and Souvenirs

In this new body of work, Caleb continues to expand his phantasmagorical narrative. The
children/protagonists in his alternate universe, having conquered their world, now begin to develop their culture of leisure, sport, and ritual. They compete for unknown prizes that exist beyond their reach. They obsess and collect souvenirs to mark their passage along this journey. They develop cognition, projecting meaning onto other beings, creating a system of animism to drive and empower their rituals. They become self-aware, conscious of the power of paint itself which defines their existence.

Caleb Weintraub constructs these paintings with a combination of oil and acrylic paint, building images with extraordinary physical presence, fluid crashing colors and heavily textured erupting surfaces.
