Jason Salavon
Crossbred and Crystalline
Jason Salavon continues to examine our consumer-driven culture in this exhibit, looking at music videos, abstract painting, broadcast television, lingerie and other material goods. He reorganizes this information so that the data forms a new image such as a mandala, a grid, or a series of horizontal bands. The work remains honest to the data, reflecting qualities that are inherent, though typically not considered by the average viewer.
On view will be Golem, a projection of 100,000 paintings that was installed at Art Statements, Art Basel 33, along with The Browser, a custom device that allows an in-depth exploration of the entire set. Other new work includes Modern Lifestyle Mandala (Automotive, Floral, Lingerie and Home Furnishings versions), and MTV's 10 Greatest Music Videos of All Time.
Jason Salavon's work is currently on view in "Here and Now" at the Cultural Center, City of Chicago, through December 29, 2002, and he will participate in the group show "Categorically Speaking" at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, from January 18 through May 18, 2003.
