Kirsten Rae Simonsen: Peaceable Kingdom
Peaceable Kingdom is Kirsten Rae Simonsen's first one person exhibition at the Peter Miller Gallery. Her work is inspired by traditional children's books such as Mother Goose, Peter Rabbit, and the Brothers Grimm. The inherent deviance presented in these children's stories is apparent in Simonsen's drawings and paintings, however, the roles have been reversed: elegantly drawn and tinted animals poke and prod at emasculated humans. Their interactions range from the erotically charged to the curious and whimsical, exploring the dark and violent subtext of traditional children's storybooks.
